Florida on track to become one of the largest cannabis markets in the US.

On Tuesday, November 5, the time has come in the American state of Florida: 23 million residents can vote on the legalization of recreational cannabis during the elections. If at least 60 percent say yes to Amendment 3, the Sunshine State will instantly become one of the largest legal marijuana markets in the United States. And according to the latest polls, that will indeed happen! Two-thirds of Florida voters support legal marijuana After California and Texas, Florida is the most populous state in the US, making it even bigger than New York. In addition to the fact that people will have to choose between Trump or Harris as the next president next Tuesday, the legalization of cannabis will also be on the ballot. Two-thirds of Florida voters now say they will support Amendment 3, the proposal to legalize adult-use cannabis. This is evident from a current poll conducted by the Public Opinion Research Lab (PORL) at the University of North Florida (UNF). The poll shows that 66% of voters are in favor of legalization, 30% are against and 4% are undecided.

Will every Floridian soon be allowed to carry 85 grams of weed?

If Amendment 3 is passed, it would legalize possession of “up to 3 ounces of cannabis flower” (85 grams of cannabis) for adults aged 21 or older. For comparison: in the Netherlands, zero grams of weed is legal and 5 grams of weed is 'tolerated'. What is special about Florida is that it does not require a simple majority (half plus 1) to convert the plan into constitutional reality, but 60 percent of the votes. That 'extra barrier' ensured that cannabis legalization was not successful four years ago... But this time the cards seem better shuffled for the pro-weed crowd. Dr. also thinks so. Michael Binder, PORL faculty director and UNF professor of political science. “After years of polling on marijuana in Florida, both medical and recreational, it is clear that the majority is in favor of legalization. We are approaching election day and despite heavy anti-campaigning, we see support for this amendment and we are well on our way to reaching the required supermajority of 60%.”
